What customers say?

“ Really good sized portions, with plenty of tasty options to choose from. There is easy parking close by, however, seating is limited if you order take away from the counter, instead of phoning your order ahead for speedy pick up. ”

“ Incredible value, price is just a bit over half what I’ve paid at other restaurants, and the portions are enormous. I have heaps for leftovers for lunch and dinner tomorrow. Tastes fantastic as well, not like greasy takeout but as if it’s been home made with love. Service was wonderful and my order was prepared quickly too. I got the sweet and sour pork, and the special fried rice. ”

“ My family of 4 adults had a meal there last night and although it wasn't absolutely the best Chinese food we've ever had, it was still an enjoyable meal. It was good value for money, and the serving sizes were quite generous so we had leftovers to take home. Like most country town Chinese restaurants in Australia, the food is tailored to the local tastes. ie spicy dishes are less spicy, and the sauce is a bit thicker and sweeter than what you'd get in big city restaurants that these days are pretty authentic compared to what you'd get in China itself, but it's still good food. For entree we had one plate of satay chicken skewers, one plate of spring rolls, deep fried wontons, and 2 bowls of chicken sweet corn soup. For mains we had garlic king prawns, Szechuan beef, sweet and sour pork and honey chicken. For desert we couldn't resist our family tradition of trying the fried ice cream. We also had a bucket of steamed rice to share and four soft drinks. Total price was $160. The garlic king prawn dish was the best, with decent sized prawns cooked just to our liking and a good mix of vegetables too. The only improvement would be to make it a bit less salty. The very close runner up was the Szechuan beef which was very tender in a moderately spicy sauce with plenty of garlic. We're used to eating very spicy food, so this was milder by comparison, but still had a bit of a kick. Like the prawns, it would suit our tastes more if it was made a little less salty in future. In third place was the satay chicken on 2 skewers. Each skewer had four fairly large pieces of chicken that were tender and well seasoned. It was served with a bowl of satay sauce which was different to what we were expecting but the flavour was good. If the chef could make it a bit less oily, it would make it easier to pick up when dipping the chicken in it. The deep fried wontons were really good too and there were plenty for the four of us to share. We'll definitely be getting the satay chicken skewers and wontons again. The spring roll entree was good too. We were served two fairly large spring rolls on the plate but as an entree it would be better for sharing if they could be made half the size, and 4 on the plate. The honey chicken was good: just lumps of battered chicken deep fried as you'd expect from any typical Chinese takeaway with a generous but not excessive coating of honey flavoured sauce. The sweet and sour pork was not what we expected. It was tasty, but instead of slices of beef, each piece was ball shaped, with a cube of pork wrapped in a fairly thick flour batter. We'd prefer it without batter, and with a few more vegetables mixed in. The steamed rice was cooked just right, in the typical Chinese style, so it was nice and soft, not dry or loose. But what about the fried ice cream I hear you ask? It was a very large scoop of ice cream, with a thin batter coating and just enough lemon flavoured sauce. Delicious! We will be going back to Churchill Chinese Restaurant again. ”
